THE BOOST MOBILE PRO OF SURF PRESENTED BY HURLEY WILDCARD TRIALS TO BE HELD AT THE U.S. OPEN OF SURF
- Boost Mobile Pro of Surf Trials to take place in Huntington Beach, CA on July 27th and 28th
IRVINE and COSTA MESA, Calif. – Boost Mobile and Hurley today announced the names of the trialists invited to compete for the coveted wildcard entry into the 2006 Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley, the only WCT event held on mainland USA. The trials feature eight high performance surfers; among them Kalohe Andino, the youngest surfer to ever compete for a WCT wildcard spot.
The Boost Mobile Pro trials will take place during the U.S. Open Bank of the West Games in Huntington Beach, California, on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28. The trials will run two four-man heats, with the top two winners of each heat competing head to head in a sudden death final. The winner of the final will advance into the main event at this year’s Boost Mobile Pro.
The heat draw is as follows:
Heat 1: July 27, 3–3:20pm: Dane Reynolds, Shane Beschen, Hank Gaskell, Mike Todd
Heat 2: July 28, 3-3:20pm: Asher Nolan, Brett Simpson, Makua Rothman, Kalohe Andino
Final: July 28, 4:20-4:40pm: Top 2 Winners from Heat 1 and Top 2 Winners from Heat 2
“This is a great opportunity for these young surfers to show their talents at a major event like the U.S. Open where over 200,000 people come to watch during the week,” said Mark Fewell, Boost Mobile. “Boost believes strongly in trying to give young people an elevated life experience, and the trials event achieves this by giving promising locals like Brett Simpson, proven talents like Dane Reynolds and Ian Walsh, and 11-year old Boost team rider Kalohe Andino the chance to win a spot to go up against the world’s best surfers at Trestles in September.”
“Hurley has some of the best young surfers in the world and it will be really exciting to see how they perform,” said Pat O’Connell, surf marketing manager, Hurley. “These surfers all have amazing talent and the competition for a wildcard spot is fierce. The U.S. Open is a great stage for these guys to show what they’ve got in front of so many surf fans. The excitement and pressure of the crowd will be good practice for what these surfers will encounter if they advance to the Boost Mobile Pro in September.”
The seventh of eleven stops on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour, this year the Boost Mobile Pro of Surf will feature Hurley’s Keys to the Continent and the Foster’s Expression Session. The full schedule of events will be available soon on www.boostmobile.com. Check back for a live web cast of the main event at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, from September 12-16, 2006.
