Los Angeles, Calif. – Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC) is an award winning national youth volunteerism movement that has touched more than 125,000 young people across the country since 2005. Harnessing the positive power of music to get youth involved to help in their communities, BMRC recently announced its Los Angeles youth volunteer movement for social change. This unprecedented program gives local youth an opportunity to earn tickets to the most exclusive concert of the season in exchange for volunteering four hours of community service. This year, civic minded youth in the Los Angeles area will earn tickets to the signature BMRC show taking place on Friday, June 20 at Gibson Amphitheatre. This once-in-a-lifetime line-up will feature some of the hottest names in hip-hop, R&B and rock.
Common, Flyleaf, Akon, Puddle of Mudd and Academy Award Winning hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia are all a part of the stellar line-up hitting the stage in Los Angeles on June 20 performing for more than 3,000 youth volunteers. Also, to share in the excitement and further reward local youth for their stellar community service, actor and comedian Tracy Morgan will host this exclusive concert. RockCorps, an organization harnessing the power of music to inspire volunteerism, and Boost Mobile, a wireless telecommunications brand dedicated to boosting the lives of today’s youth, have partnered for this youth movement for social change.
This year’s program started in May with the “BMRC Green Kickoff” weekend and through June 20, BMRC will execute approximately 35 additional volunteer projects in the Los Angeles area. In an effort to restore Los Angeles’ natural habitat BMRC is currently working in collaboration with several “green” organizations for environmentally based projects. By the completion of this year’s movement, volunteers will have worked on a range of service projects, in partnership with local non-profit organizations, including school and skate park renovations, riverbank beautification and other “green” initiatives. Volunteer efforts include planting trees, wetland restoration near the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers, cleaning-up beaches and community gardens and rebuilding local parks, all in an effort to make Los Angeles more beautiful for local residents and children.
“We are so excited to be a part of such an amazing global event and look forward to seeing the standard of surfing fly up another notch this year,” said Pat O’Connell, surf marketing manager, Hurley. “The opportunity for these wildcards to surf against the best surfers in the world is such an honor, especially when you look at the records set at last year’s event. From Kelly [Slater] passing Tom Curran for the most WCT wins, to the attention the wildcards received, this event is one of the best platforms for athletes and spectators alike to experience the sport.”
People interested in participating at upcoming BMRC events are encouraged to log onto www.boostmobilerockcorps.com or call 888-ROCK-889 to register for membership. Boost Mobile RockCorps members will be notified of opportunities in their area to volunteer and are asked to commit four hours to a specific event or ongoing cause.
