'Coroner' spot chosen out of several thousands of commercials to be featured on annual hour-long special honoring humor in advertising
IRVINE, Calif. – Boost Mobile definitely doesn't think this is wrong! The division of Sprint that offers wireless phones and services with no contracts, credit checks or activation fees has been selected to have its ‘Coroner' ad featured on TBS' World's Funniest Commercials. ‘Coroner' is one of five spots in the Boost Mobile "Unwronged" campaign that was launched in conjunction with its $50 Monthly Unlimited plan. Boost Mobile set out to ‘unwrong' wireless consumers by introducing a nationwide advertising campaign portraying humorous situations that most would consider ‘wrong,' such as a coroner dropping his breakfast burrito "with chorizo" into a dead body and proceeding to pick it back up and eat it.
Premiering Friday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on TBS, the annual hour-long World's Funniest Commercials special, hosted by Kevin Nealon, features the year's top advertising spots from around the world. The Boost Mobile ‘Coroner' ad was selected out of several thousand ads and is part of only a few dozen that were selected for broadcast. The purpose of the special is to highlight the most clever, highest quality and most entertaining commercials that viewers may or may not have seen.
"We have always been proud of our ability to produce advertising campaigns that separate ourselves from other no contract wireless competitors by talking about value in a way that utilizes the energetic, authentic and edgy tone that has always driven the Boost Mobile brand," said Caralene Robinson, Director of Marketing Services for Boost Mobile.
The ‘Unwronged' concept came from Boost's advertising agency of record, 180LA. Most recently Boost Mobile launched two new spots in the installment of its ‘Unwronged' commercials, this time featuring Indy Car racing star, Danica Patrick.
"Being included in the World's Funniest Commercials is a nod to the success of the campaign," added William Gelner, Executive Creative Director of 180LA.
