Installing an eSIM on your iPhone




Boost Mobile users with an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR or later will be able to use an eSIM. 

New customers who activate with eSIM when setting up service may receive a physical SIM card. This will not affect your eSIM activation.

If you don’t activate with eSIM when setting up your service and you receive a physical SIM, it is active and ready to use. If you’d like to utilize eSIM capabilities, please chat with us or call Customer Care 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678) to make the switch.

If you are an existing Boost Mobile customer and want to switch to eSIM, please chat with us or call Customer Care 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678) to switch from physical SIM to eSIM.

If you’ve been locked out of your device with eSIM, you may need to reset it and request a new eSIM.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM that eliminates the need for a physical SIM card. With eSIM, you can quickly and easily transfer an existing cellular plan or get a new cellular plan, all digitally. You can even store multiple eSIMs on the same device and use two phone numbers at the same time. And it’s more secure — someone can’t remove the physical SIM card if your iPhone is lost or stolen. In just a few simple steps, you are ready to make calls, send messages, and browse the web.

What phones support eSIM?

All Boost Mobile users with an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR or later will be able to use an eSIM. If you purchased an iPhone 14 or later, your iPhone doesn't have a physical SIM tray and will only activate with an eSIM. You can learn more about eSIM on iPhone here

How do I get a Boost Mobile eSIM if I'm not purchasing my iPhone from Boost Mobile?

If you’re bringing your own iPhone to Boost Mobile, you can activate with eSIM when you sign up for new service. Follow the steps for Installing and activating an eSIM.

Installing and activating an eSIM

Follow these steps to install an eSIM on your device for phones purchased from Boost Mobile or when you bring your own device to Boost Mobile.

Before you install your eSIM, please make sure:

  • Your phone's operating system is updated. Go to Settings > General > Software update. Your phone must be on iOS 15.2 or later.
  • Your phone is unlocked. You may need to call your current carrier to unlock your phone.
  • You're connected to Wi-Fi and not on your existing cellular connection.
  • If you're transferring your existing number to Boost Mobile, make sure to get your account number and port or transfer PIN from your current carrier.
Step 1

Click Activate to sign into your account to begin the eSIM activation process.

Step 2

Click iPhone XS or newer? Activate now with eSIM. Enter the IMEI number of your phone. You can find the IMEI by dialing *#06# or by going to Settings and selecting About.

Select Get Started.

Step 4

Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

Step 5

Choose if you want a new number or if you’re transferring your existing number and click Complete Activation.

Step 6

For iPhone 14 and later, enter the IMEI1 or IMEI2 number.

For iPhones 13 and earlier, enter IMEI2

You can find the IMEI number by dialing *#06# or by going to Settings and selecting About.

Step 7

The eSIM push for activating a new number can take a few minutes to process. Activations are usually complete in less than 30 minutes.

The eSIM push for transferring your existing number can take up to 24 hours due to the transfer process that needs to be completed. 

Step 8

Before installing the new eSIM profile, remove any physical SIMs or or delete any eSIMs that you'll no longer be using. This includes all SIMs from the network you're porting from.

Step 9

Before installing the eSIM, make sure you don't have any other Apple devices connected to your WI-Fi connection.

Step 10

Open the push notification to install the eSIM and click Continue to start the installation.

You can verify your eSIM activation status by going to Settings and selecting Cellular. You’ll see your primary plan activating with a loading wheel loading wheel icon.

Once the eSIM is activated, your screen will update with a Boost Mobile header where you can view SIM information.

Step 11

Turn off Wi-Fi to use the Boost Mobile Cellular Network. Your device is ready to use on the Boost Mobile network.

How do I move my phone number from my Android device to an eSIM compatible iPhone?

If you’re switching to iPhone, follow the installation and activation steps above.

How do I activate an iPhone with eSIM if I don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network?

If you have an eSIM only iPhone 14 or later and you don’t have a Wi-Fi network, Apple has a new solution to activate your eSIM. During the setup process, you can choose to continue without Wi-Fi. This allows you to setup your new eSIM without Wi-Fi —at no cost to you.

How do I know if my iPhone is unlocked?

  1. Go to Settings > General, and tap About.
  2. Under Carrier Lock, you should see a message that says "No SIM restrictions." If you don't see that message, contact your carrier.

Will activating an eSIM lock my iPhone to Boost Mobile?

What should I do if my iPhone is lost or stolen with an active eSIM?

If your iPhone with an active eSIM is lost or stolen, please chat with us or contact Boost Mobile Customer Care at 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678).

What happens to my cellular plan if I erase my eSIM?

If you delete your eSIM, your cellular plan has not been canceled. Please chat with us or contact Boost Mobile Customer Care at 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678).

If I am traveling to the US from abroad, can I download a local eSIM on Boost Mobile’s network?

You can activate an eSIM on any unlocked phone by signing up for new service at my.boostmobile.com or by visiting a Boost Mobile authorized retailer. You can view available plans here.

If you have a physical Boost Mobile SIM card, please chat with us or contact Boost Mobile Customer Care at 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678) to swap it to an eSIM.

What is dual SIM?

Dual SIM allows users to use two phone numbers at the same time. For example, you can use one number for business and another number for personal. Or you can add a local data plan when you travel outside of your service country or region.
