Troubleshoot shortened battery life


This article helps you troubleshoot battery life issues.

You may have battery issues if:

  • Your phone consistently displays a low charge
  • The battery drains quickly

Try each of these steps to see if it helps your charge last longer. (Note: These are general tips for all Boost Mobile phones. For device-specific troubleshooting steps, visit our Device Support section and select your phone.)


In Boost Zone, browse Power Usage and learn how your current power settings affect battery life.

  1. Open the Boost Zone app on your phone.
  2. Swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
  3. Tap Power Usage.
    1. Power Usage Overview: Displays your current power usage level.
    2. Power Usage Details: Shows your power usage over time and which features use your battery the most.
      1. Battery Usage: Shows battery history and power usage of each app.
      2. Current Power Settings: Shows settings that can affect battery life. Tap an item to change the setting.
      3. Select Power Mode: Helps change settings to extend battery
    3. Learn More: Provides more information on battery life.

Change the power settings to Low Power.

  1. From within Boost Zone, swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
  2. Tap Power Usage.
  3. Tap Select Power Mode.
  4. Tap Apply.
    Note: If location services are enabled, they must be disabled manually. On the Select Power Mode prompt, tap the message, tap the Location switch to OFF and tap the Back key to return to Boost Zone.

Close or uninstall applications to improve battery life.

  • Some apps run in the background when you are not using them.
  • Also, some apps consume more power than others.
  • Some apps come pre-loaded on your phone and you can't uninstall them.
  1. From within Boost Zone, swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
  2. Tap Power Usage.
  3. Tap Battery Usage.
  4. Tap the application you want to close or uninstall.
    1. Close (turn off) an application: Tap Force stop.
    2. Uninstall (remove from phone) an application: Tap App info, Uninstall, and then OK.

Verify that your phone is running the most recent software.

  1. In Boost Zone, swipe to the left to open Device Diagnostics.
  2. Tap System Updates.
  3. Tap Device Software.
  4. Tap Check now.
    • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install.
