How do I transfer my voicemail messages to the updated app?

Follow these steps to transfer your saved / archived Visual Voicemail 10.x messages, so they're available when transitioning to the Visual Voicemail 11.x application.

Step 1. Connect your phone to a PC using a USB cable.

Step 2. Open Windows File Explorer Folder and locate your phone.

Note: If you do not see your phone in Windows File Explorer, go to Settings/Connected devices/USB Preferences on your phone, and change the USB connection type to File transfer. (The settings path and option names may differ by device type.)

Step 3. In Windows File Explorer, go to [phone name]\Internal shared storage.

Note: The path to Internal shared storage may differ by device type.

Step 4. Copy the smvvm folder on the phone to a local folder on the PC.

If you'd like to place these voicemails onto the device at this moment, please proceed to step 5.

If you'd like to keep them on your computer, the process is complete.

Step 5. In Windows File Explorer, go to [phone name]\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.dish.vvm.

Note: If the com.dish.vvm folder doesn't exist, launch the Visual Voicemail 11.x app. This action will create the [phone name]\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.dish.vvm folder.

Step 6. Open the Visual Voicemail 11.x app on your phone and move all messages from the Archive and Custom folders to the Inbox. (Any messages you do not move to the Inbox will be overwritten when you perform Step 8.)

Step 7. Force-close (or swipe away) the Visual Voicemail app on your phone, by selecting the three lines in the bottom left, and then swiping away the app to close it.

Step 8. In Windows File Explorer, copy the smvvm folder on the PC (see step 4) to the phone's [phone name]\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.dish.vvm folder.

Note: If you see a message asking "Do you want to copy <file name> to your device?", check the Do this for all files box, and then click Yes.

Note: If you see a message about overwriting or replacing existing files, select the option that allows the action to occur.

Step 9. Relaunch the Visual Voicemail 11.x app. You should now see your messages from Visual Voicemail 10.x in the Archive folder.

Note: Visual Voicemail 11.x has a Cloud Backup feature that helps keep your voicemails safe and makes it easier to transfer them to a new phone. See Visual Voicemail Help for instructions on enabling Cloud Backup.
